I guess Nintendo caught a good deal on those Chinese knockoff Android tablets.

NGP details will come rolling in at E3. Expect for it to get a proper name and release window. Sony will also spotlight their forthcoming stable of exclusive titles like Resistance 3, The Last Gaurdian, Ratchet and Clank All 4 One, Twisted Metal, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. I’m sure there will be a lengthy apology/reassurance speech highlighting the security measures built into the new PSN. Like most press conferences, Sony’s going to have something to announce that we haven’t seen yet, that’s where the theories come in. Anyone wanna take a bet on how much apologizing we will hear?

Last year, Dance Central took the Kinect world by storm. This year, Harmonix will ship Dance Central 2 for Xbox 360. Does this sound familiar? Well, It should. When Guitar Hero was released it took Harmonix a year to crank out its much improved follow up, Guitar Hero 2. Then, Rock Band hit in 2007 and just under a year later Rock Band 2 perfected the 4 player band formula. In both cases the first games were good, but clearly needed to be play tested by a fan base.

If the past tells us anything it’s that Dance Central 2 will be a marked improvement over its predecessor. The biggest thing missing from the first game, a simultaneous 2 player mode, was shown at the Microsoft press event.  An Usher song was shown and so far the other songs announced are great choices.

If that’s too long to wait, it was also announced that Halo Combat Evolved (aka the original Halo Game for Xbox and PC) has been remastered (I don’t know if I agree with that term) and will be re-released this year on November 15th, 2011.  The draw here is the classic story and multiplayer maps being adapted to the current gen experience.

Online competitive and Co-op play, HD graphics and art assets and the full Xbox live experience will be available.  Players that are new to the franchise will be able to see the beginning of the story and old fans will be able to experience classic maps like Blood Gulch and Hang ‘Em High.  I am also willing to put money on Anniversary shipping with Halo 4 multiplayer beta access.

Test, briefing starts in little under an hour. I’m excited! Halo 4 and Halo HD have already leaked, I’m looking forward to seeing footage!

Not too much is known about what Microsoft is doing. Sure there’s Gears 3 and Forza 4, but that’s a known quantity. They don’t have a hardware launch that’s been announced and their first party teams have been quite hush hush. With the success of Kinect, expect it to have a large presence at the press conference. Halo news is all but guaranteed, but most fans will be watching the show not knowing what to expect.

Techpedition may not be attending E3 this year, but we will definitely be there in spirit. There are a lot of knowns and unknowns coming out of the press conferences and one of the big three is sure to trot out the show stopper. With software publishers also having a lot of games to show, this year’s E3 could be one for the ages. Let’s see what 3rd parties have to offer.

EA is going to dedicate a nice chunk of time to Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect, Activision will focus on Modern Warfare 3, Spiderman and Prototype 2, Ubisoft’s press conference will hinge on Assassin’s Creed Revelations and ZeniMax despite not having a press conference, will have large amounts of Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and Rage. Take Two will show Bioshock Infinite, and Spec-Ops: The Line. Capcom will have more Street Fighter X Tekken and Square/Eidos will have a lot of Deus Ex: Human Revolution info.

There are some other games that have already been announced that will come into play, but the most exciting parts of E3 are the surprises.

Here are the projections and conjectures on what might go down:


Activision needs to announce some titles; they can’t live on MW3 and Spiderman all year. The Guitar Hero teams (Neversoft and Vicarious Visions) have to be working on something. They also have the Blizzard side of the business to promote. Diablo 3 needs a release date as do the two Starcraft Expansions. With Cataclysm out, where does World of Warcraft go from here? I’m very excited to see what they have to show.

EA has been pretty successful so far this year, and they will make sure everyone knows this in their press conference. Insomniac has been pretty quiet since announcing their deal with EA and while this may be a bit soon, don’t be surprised if Respawn Entertainment (another EA partner) makes an appearance in some fashion. Star Wars the Old Republic should get a release date. Dragon Age 3 will probably not be mentioned. We don’t know what Criterion Games is working on and considering the sales of the last one, Medal of Honor 2 is almost a given.

Ubisoft should give more details on I Am Alive and Beyond Good and Evil 2. Also expect 1 or 2 Tom Clancy related announcements. Far Cry 3 might drop and it would be nice to see more Prince of Persia and more details on Rayman Origins. With Ubi dabbling in both laser tag games and the film industry, who knows what crazy shenanigans those French dudes will put on stage this year?

Square/Eidos will presumably have details on the new Tomb Raider, Hitman 5, Thief 4 and both Final Fantasy XIII games (2 and Vs). Capcom could show Devil May Cry, and a new Resident Evil is likely. Both Onimusha and Darkstalkers are also possible. Expect Konami to announce something Metal Gear (like usual) and it wouldn’t be a Konami booth if it didn’t have something Castlevania related in it.

Sega will have more Sonic non-sense and licensed titles. What Sega needs to announce is Jet Set Radio 3, Bayonetta 2 or anything else Platinum Games wants to make. Take Two will have a surprisingly robust line up. GTA (something) could be rolled out, and in addition to the above mentioned Bioshock Infinite, and Spec-Ops: The Line, The Darkness 2 and XCOM might be there.  THQ should show Saints Row: The Third and have some much needed news on Darksiders 2.  Finally, what will Warner Bros interactive have? Two words…Bat and man.

So yeah, that’s a lot to digest, but E3 is big and every publisher in the industry will be there to try and steal the show. For the life of me I don’t know who it will be. What do you want to see?

Truly the dark horse this year, Microsoft’s announcements are the ones most clouded in secrecy. The craziest thing they could possibly do is unveil a new console. That is highly unlikely and probably a foolish endeavor, but its possible.  They’ve had huge success out of the Kinect Sensor, so expect them to leverage that success with a big numbers presentation and numerous first and 3rd party software announcements.  Microsoft has always been good at selling Xbox Live as a platform for media and expect that to continue this year.

You may even hear about how “secure” the Xbox Live network is, as a way of throwing a jab at Sony without actually saying the word Sony. Notable probables are Kinect Sports 2, Dance Central 2 and a large focus on the success they’ve had digitally with XBLA. As mentioned before, Halo will probably come up, and if I were a betting man I would say that it will be in the form of a full-on remake of Halo: Combat Evolved. Something Project Gotham releated is possible and a new Perfect Dark would not surprise.

With their new partnership with Nokia other huge announcements could be looming, like a Window’s Phone 7 powered tablet or gaming device.  They will talk about the adoption rate of the window phone and find a way to make it look great.  That business unit still has a long way to go to become relevant, so expect something new and exciting to come out about the only Microsoft portable device. 2010 is winding to a close and E3 2011 is getting ready.  The dates have been set for June 7-9 2011.  Registration has also begun.  Currently only paying attendee registration is open.  Media and Presenter registration still coming soon.

Is it too early to speculate about what may be shown?  I think not.  What is speculation than just throwing out ideas with very limited to no proof.  It’s still fun.

Well here are some of Carl’s early speculation for E3 2011:

-Launch Gameboy Virtual Console (I know it has been announced but I doubt it will be available at the 3DS launch)

-Wii Vitality Sensor (LOL-Only thing Sony and MS do not have yet and the fitness craze is getting stronger)

-Nintendo Network (Long over due but free)

-Super Wii (5 year Nintendo console lifespan)

-Sony TV with built in Eye Toy and XMB (Yeah not gonna happen)

-Windows Phone Gaming (First Expo since its Release, doubt they would use CES)

-More PS3 SKUs(Just more hard drive configurations)

-Xbox 360 Kinect Family Bundle (assorted colors)

-Kinect: Pets can play too (Grasping at straws)

-Capcom SSFIV for PC (I have it on PS3 now, of course they are gonna release it)

-Microsoft Gives away Kinects at its Presser (Hate I missed the free Xbox’s)

-EA announce partnership with Apple (not a buy out but something special)

-Larger Android and Iphone Gaming Presence (This is a given)

-OnLive 2.0 (Reduced lag and Announced Partnerships with Increased Library)
