According to Kotaku an Australian retailer has received a mod chip (in the form of a USB stick) for the Sony PS3. Allegedly this MOD chip will allow you to copy games to your PS3 from discs, place a Homebrew software on the console, and play burned games.
All of that for the low low price of about $120 U.S. A side effect of the mod is that you can no longer install official PS3 firmware much like when you mod a Wii console. The Wii, 360, and PSP have been hacked for years now, so the hacking of the PS3 was inevitable. Who knew it would take 4 years?
The question that remains is, would it be worth getting? Sure you could play your “back ups”, but would you want to have to make a new PSN account to play online? Surely accounts using hacked software would get banned like on the 360.
