So, we’re knee-deep into the new direction of Fullmetal alchemist now -and yes, my mind has been blown. Things that I thought were impossible have happened. If you don’t want any spoilers DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER.

Ok, now that the spoiler warning is out of the way I can go all out! The coolest change is AL remembering his encounter with the “truth” (you know, that thing that snatched his body away?). After he remembers this he can transmute by slapping his hands together like Edward and their teacher. This is also significant because there is that issue with him thinking that his real soul isn’t attached to the suit of armor.
Equally surprising was the sight of homunculi getting their behinds handed to them. Greed doesn’t get nearly as much screen time in this incarnation and the battle between Roy Mustang and Lust is epic to say the least. This probably surprised me the most because you get the sense in the other series that they are somewhat invincible. They are also created by one person who is vaguely referred to as ‘father.’ They aren’t created when someone tries human transmutation.
Another surprise is the addition of eastern characters and their take on alchemy. They are used more for comic relief than anything else at this point, but I can tell that things will probably get serious soon.
Well, there are many more changes, but those are the ones that have stuck out at me. Stay tuned for a full recap when the series concludes!
