Was hanging with my significant other this weekend browsing the Xbox 360 Netflix movie queue and noticed that I had added “Day of Dead” the 2008 release to my playlist. My lady and I, horror movie fans that we are, decided it was time to watch it. Before I continue I must recommend that you watch it. Do not buy. I also do not recommend renting unless you have something like netflix and its unlimited movie renting service. Back to the movie. Spoilers Commence.
The movie stars Nick Cannon, the choir chick from the first American Pie, and Ving Rhames(Briefly). The story is this in a nutshell, Secret Army Testing Zombie Infestation. 
That pretty much sums it up.
Here is the fun part. These are not your ordinary Romero slow “braaaiiinnns” zombies. These zombies are straight out of Valve’s Left 4 Dead track team curb stomp your ass(Thanx Andy) infected. I assure you the only Valve beast missing is the Tank which probably could have been Ving Rames if his legs weren’t ripped off. We have the horde and they do howl and growl. We have a witch and she groans like the witch. We got a fat zombie. He does not actually gurgle and vomit but he is fat enough. There’s no smoker though, but if you consider the smoker as perverted(I do), we do have a horny zombie . There are lots of hunters. They do crawl on all fours, run on walls, and pounce like spiderman with a squeal. “Molotovs Here”
Now to the characters. Nick Cannon, you can pretty much call him Louis. He does acquire a big ass knife like Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 5. And yes he is also the asshole. Mena is Zoey. Sexy and lethal. No old white guy so I will say the guy playing Mena’s brother is Bill. Last but not least is the army private who wants to share his “privates” with Mena. I will call him Francis. There are few other survivors but They do not serve that big of a purpose. I did mention Ving. Yeah he dies. EARLY!! He is pretty much the same character from Dawn of the Dead. Just military now instead of police. Still a government job though.
This movie is by far not a blockbuster. Which is why I am sure it was a straight to DVD release. However if you like Left 4 Dead and wanna see Romero copy the games like they copied him, although I think this movie and L4D were worked on simultaneously, then this is a great zombie flick(Popcorn anyone). And for those of you wondering, Yes Nick Cannon dies. And Wesker, I call him Wesker, is in the movie. Yeap the movie goes from Left 4 Dead to Resident Evil. Enjoy.
